AFP Modernization

AFP Modernization started when Republic Act No. 7898 became law on Feb. 23, 1995 for all branches with Php50 Billion for the first five years, the modernization fund was to be separate and distinct from the rest of AFP budget. It intended to last for 15 years lasting 2010 to complete with AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) created two sub-program under Modernization Program Capability. Philippine Navy 25 - 30 Additional Ships Updates Part 1 As part of Strategic Sail Plan 2020 and Desired Mixed Force of the Philippine Navy as well recent statement this year by FOIC the PN embark modernization acquisition both used and brand new naval vessels. Currently Philippine Navy has 94 ships in various size plus the incoming 2 JRC Frigate being build by HHI that will be delivered earliest April 2020 and September 2020 . As well as the three new MPAC MK IV that will be delivered this Aug. 2019 The Philippine Navy (PN) is planning to acquire 25 to 30 warships of various types within the next five to 10 years as part of its efforts to augment its fleet. "We have plans to acquire 25 to 30 in the next five to 10 years. Offshore Patrol Vessels Acquisition Project

OPV – Offshore Patrol Vessel as names implies is a Patrol boat categories and classified as inshore patrol vessels (IPVs) and offshore patrol vessels (OPVs). They are warships typically smaller in size than a corvette and can include fast attack craft , torpedo boats and missile boats , although some are as large as a frigate . The offshore patrol vessels are usually the smallest ship in a navy’s fleet that is large and seaworthy enough to patrol off-shore in the open ocean. Philippine Navy has many smaller IPV like Kagitingan class, Tomas Batillo, and smaller Andrada Class but none was offshore capable vessels except the Malvar  and Jacinto classify as corvette. Most of Malvar class will be retire by 2020 on wards and on PN Force Desired Mix  called for 18 OPV both used and brand new. And the recently approved Horizon 2 budget it include 6 OPV with an Approved Budget for Contract (ABC) of Php30 billion, which was approved in-principle by Pres. Duterte in early June
